Launch of ROPES 2015

Charlie Byrne’s resident Tolkien and Kids Books’ fan Michaela McDermott

Last Thursday saw the very successful launch of ROPES 2015 here at Charlie Byrne’s. The dedicated team of students from the NUIG MA in Literature and Publishing, put a substantial amount of time and effort into making this one of the best editions of ROPES yet and saw a suitable turnout in response to their efforts.

ROPES, Review of Postgraduate English Studies, is an annual literature and art review publishing original poetry, prose, photography, artwork, as well as excerpts from scripts and screenplays. ROPES is published in association with NUI Galway and this year all proceeds from the journal will go to ACT! for Meningitis, a Galway based charity. The theme of this year’s publication was conversations that can be explored through poetry, prose, art work and photography.

Writers who featured in this year’s ROPES took the opportunity to read extracts from their pieces; this included, Seal  by Sarah Clancy, Icing by David Murphy,  Orfhlaith Foyle Sugar by Orfhlaith Foyle and Whispers by Sean Scully. Inspired by the phrase, ‘let’s just have a chat, all pieces in ROPES 2015 are inspired by the universal theme of conversations and communications, something which will be easily related to for many years to come.
