World Book Week at Charlie Byrne’s!

20160229_135141With Thursday the 3rd of March marking World Book Day, at Charlie Byrne’s we are very excited for our best World Book Week Ever with almost a full week of packed activities all based around the celebrating a love of reading!Our children’s section manager Ruth will be hosting We everything from a Story Times, to reading workshops, school visits and author signings – it’s sure to be a fun filled week! 

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. This is the 19th year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 3rd March 2016 children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading.

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday the 1st of March, children from first to fourth class from Mercy Primary School on Francis Street will be visiting our bookshop for a whole host of reading related fun! We will be having workshops and readings on everything from Captain Underpants, to the Top 10 books to Read before you’re 10. Tuesday will also see our World Book Day celebrations extend into our Tuesday evening 9-11 Book Club as we discuss Wonder by RJ Palacio.

20160229_135045On Wednesday, Ruth will be visiting the students of Scoil Íde for a whole day of reading celebrations. Ruth will be visiting the classrooms of students from Junior Infants to Third Class for Story Times, workshops on Imaginary Friends and a special 1916 themed workshop.

Thursday sees a very exciting visit from author Catherine Doyle to our children’s section. Catherine Doyle is the author of Vendetta and Inferno from the Blood for Blood series for teens and young adults. The second year students of Taylor’s Hill will be lucky enough to have a reading from Inferno and the opportunity to have their book signed. Catherine will also give a brief talk on being a young writer and how to write your very own novel.

Saturday will also be a very exciting day as we will have one of our much loved Teddy Bear’s Picnic Story Time! in this story time special, teddy bears are invited to join us for our usual story time fun and are even invited to vote for their favourite stories! Make sure you join Michaela at 11am in our children’s section for all your favourite stories, and don’t forget to bring your teddy bears!

Throughout the week World Book Day books will be available to buy with your World Book Day vouchers in store and are all displayed together in our children’s section.
